Aidan Coakley O’Neil died on July 11th, 2023. He was a gifted cross-country athlete and a beloved son, brother, grandson and friend.

Aidan was born on February 27, 2006 in New York City. He became a treasured member of Iowa City Regina’s community where he was a standout student and decorated cross country and track runner, and member of the basketball team. Aidan was loved deeply by his family and friends, and adored by his devoted yellow lab, Tanzen.

Aidan is survived by his mother Jennifer (Schiele) O’Neil, his father Liam O’Neil, as well as his brothers Conor and Kieran, his sister Maeve, his grandmother Catherine Schiele, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Aidan touched those around him, and we will miss his bright smile and enormous heart. His spirit and gentle light will shine on.

A mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 15th at 11am at St. Thomas More Church Catholic Church in Coralville, Iowa. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 before the mass. In lieu of flowers, Aidan’s family is asking for donations to be sent to The Big O Foundation https://thebigofoundation.org/ in support of mental health awareness.
