Albert Ralph Andersen, III, 67, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at UIHC.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Al’s life will be held at 6 PM, Monday, May 1, 2023 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be made to UNOS United Network for Organ Sharing or The Lymphatic Research Foundation.

Al was a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Pathology at UIHC. His work in Tissue Cellular Therapy was exciting and challenging.

Al was born on February 16, 1956 at Catskill Memorial Hospital in New York and grew up in Hensonville, New York. He graduated from Windham, Ashland, Jewett Central School in 1974 and a graduate of Ulster County Community College, receiving an AAS degree in Medical Technology. Al went on to pursue a degree in Molecular Biology at SUNY Plattsburgh in Saranac, New York, but was just shy of completing his degree when he decided to move to Iowa.

Al’s passions incorporated his family and friends. His huge heart opened doors to all four-legged and feathered companions. He enjoyed model railroading, the Iowa speedway in Newton, his 2007 Ford Mustang “Baby”, running amok on his John Deere tractor and working with his hands. Al adored his grandchildren and spent time with them every chance he got.

Al loved rural living and its peaceful tranquility and as many sunrises and sunsets as he could sneak in. He enjoyed theatrical plays in the Amana Colonies and eating out with family and friends.

Al is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Yvonne, John and Albert IV; four grandchildren, Jude Michael, Webb, Deegan, and Nina; his sister, Stephanie (Stanley) Gross; nephews, Matthew Jasen and Ty Austin; his beloved aunt, Blanche Splendoiro; and numerous cousins and friends.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Jr. and Sandy (Brockett) Andersen and a sister, Pamela Andersen.
