Betty Jean Hanson, 81, died peacefully Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Lone Tree Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Church, Iowa City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 PM to 7 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to the memorial established in Betty’s name.

Betty was born May 25, 1941 the daughter of Wilfred and Irene (Kral) Klein. She was raised in Hills and graduated from Regina High School. Betty was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Betty was a nurse at Mercy Hospital for over 45 years.
On January 21, 1963 Betty married Thomas William “Bill” Hanson at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills.
Betty was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Helping Hands, and the Iowa Genealogical Society. Betty journaled everyday so that her memories were well documented. She collected lighthouses and loved to travel.
Most important to Betty was her family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.
Betty is survived by her five children, Denise (Bill) Maier, Scott (Lisa) Hanson, Kevin Hanson, Kelly Mills, and Jill (Brent) Simpson; grandchildren, Tom (Meagan) Maier, Jared (Jacky) Mills, Drew (Kate) Mills, Katy (Marc) Belluomini, Abby Simpson, and James Simpson; great grandchildren, Chason, Gentry, and Easton Maier; Chloe Belluomini; Remi Mills; Brynn and Jason Mills; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hanson Johnson, Linda Klein, and Carol Hanson; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her grandson, Austin; her great-grandson, Corbin and brothers Robert, James, and Richard.
