14 October 1976 - The Tipton Conservative

Donald Leroy Green, 33, was electrocuted at approximately 12:45 p.m. Oct. 11 when a truck boom came in contact with a high voltage power line on the Floyd Fawcett farm.

Green was part of a crew that was installing a farm line a half mile south and a half mile east of the Scattergood overpass of Interstate 80. He apparently had leaned against the truck when its boom came in contact with the line which carries 7,200 volts of electricity. It is believed he died instantly when the electricity passed through his body into the ground, burning a hole in the sole of his left shoe.

The West Branch rescue squad and the Tipton Ambulance crew worked for more than 45 minutes in an effort to revive Green. Dr. Walter Kopsa, Cedar county medical examiner, pronounced him dead at the scene.

Green had been a ground-man-truck driver for the Iowa Electric for 2 and a half years.

He was born in Iowa City Aug. 13, 1943 and was married to the former Rebecca Schreiber at Lone Tree July 24, 1965.

He is survived by his wife and 2 sons, Phillip and Douglas and a daughter, Deborah, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green, Nichols; a sister, Mrs. Gerald Durst, Muscatine and 2 brothers, Larry and John, both of Nichols.

Funeral services for Green are being held at Lone Tree today.
