Agnes “Dorree” Eckhoff, 94, passed away on December 27, 2022, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City.

CELEBRTION OF LIFE

In honoring her lifelong commitment to Iowa Hawkeye Athletics, a Celebration of Life Tailgate Party will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Kinnick Stadium press box, in the McCord Indoor Club, with comments at 6:00 PM.

Dorree was born on December 31, 1927, in Iowa City and adopted by Mary Emma (Sells) and George P. Hauser. Dorree’s childhood was spent in Iowa City. She graduated from City High School, Iowa City, in 1945. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949 where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

On February 9, 1946, Dorree married Harry J. Eckhoff, Jr. in Kahoka, MO. The couple had five children: George, Christine, Neil, Julie and Elizabeth. As part of Harry’s military service, the family lived in numerous locations, finally retiring in 1966 and returning to the Iowa City area, settling in Lone Tree.

Dorree worked in the insurance industry over the years and retired as a Sales Representative for Newton Manufacturing.

Dorree was an active member of Johnson County Republican Women, a dedicated volunteer at the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame and an avid bridge player with various groups over the years. Her faith was important to her, and she was a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Dorree will be best remembered for her poise and grace, as well as her dedication to Hawkeye Athletics.

Dorree is survived by her children George (Cindy) Eckhoff of Oceanside, CA, Christine Storck of Charlotte, NC, Neil Eckhoff of Stockton, CA, Julie (Don) Scharnweber of Little Elm, TX and Elizabeth (Randy) Yakish of Lone Tree, IA; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including special nephew Patrick McGaughey.

Dorree was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, and her sister Mary Frances.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Oaknoll for the loving care that Dorree received there.
