Joyce L. Stumme (93) of Iowa City passed away January 24, 2023 at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 4, 10-12 pm at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service (2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City) followed by a funeral service at 12 pm. Joyce will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Joyce was born June 25, 1929 on the family farm near Allison, Iowa to George and Rena (Leete) Wilder. She married Robert Stumme of Waverly, Iowa on November 22, 1950. The family moved to Iowa City in 1954. After her husband's death in 1973, she worked at Iowa State Bank and Trust Co. She retired in 1994 as head teller at the Rochester branch.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Ron Thomae) of Iowa City, her daughter-in-law, Joy Stumme of Burlington Junction, Missouri; granddaughters, Crystal (Rob) Lender of Omaha, Nebraska, Nicolette (Rob) Comstock of Clearmont, Missouri, Holly (Scott) Smith of Honey Creek, Iowa, and grandson, Aaron Stumme of Omaha, Nebraska; and six great grandchildren, Dylan, Eva, Xavier, Jonah, Grady, and Sawyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her son, Craig, her siblings, Reid Wilder and Miriam (Glen) Johnson, her in laws, Herman and Mary Stumme, Richard (Elsie) Stumme, Annie Stumme, Robert Freeman, and Fritz Cripe and many dear friends she made throughout her lifetime.
Joyce was active in the Methodist Women's Circle. She enjoyed time with friends, playing cards, going to plays, shopping, and coffee groups. She was an avid Hawkeye fan. Above all else she cherished time spent with her family. Her grandchildren will always remember her holiday meals, blonde brownies and her awesome Chinese Checkers skills.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.
