MRS. LEWIS LOVED PIONEER CALLED BEYOND
Mrs. Francis Lyman Lewis, after an illness of three weeks, passed away, last night, a victim of pneumonia. She was 86 years of age.

She was the widow of a pioneer railroad man, who for many years was a bridge foreman, and a train inspector. He was also a Mason of high standing.

Mrs. Lewis herself, was prominent in fraternal and sisterly circles, her activities and accomplishments in the realms of the Eastern Star, W. R. C., and the Baptist church, making her one of the noblest and best of Iowa City workers in such fields of endeavor. She was also a Missionary society leader of true worth.

Mrs. Lewis was formerly Miss Rositha Elizabeth Strait. She was a native of Onondaga county, New York, where she was born May 28, 1838. She removed to Illinois in 1847, and was married there, in 1847. She had resided in Iowa City ever since she came here a bride in 1864.

Surviving are no immediate members of her family. Mr. Frank Lewis, of Iowa City, is a nephew, and Harley Lewis of Arkansas, was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. He became in his young manhood a prominent worker in sociological and “Y” circles.

Friends of the fine octogenarian were numbered by the hundreds during the last three score years, and wherever she was known, she will be deeply mourned.
