Steve was born February 7, 1973 in Iowa City, the son of Robert and Mary Ann (Carson) Vercande. He was a 1991 graduate of Regina High School and the Kirkwood Community College Lab Tech Program.
Steve was a Lab Tech (CDT) Instructional Resource Associate in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry for twenty years. He was a gifted teacher and well respected by both faculty and the many dental students he taught throughout the years. In 2014 Steve was presented honorary membership into Omicron Kappa Upsilon Mu Chapter. Membership to OKU is normally limited to dentists. His advice to dental students was to “always be thinking about why you are doing what you are doing. If you know why you are doing a step, you can make informed decisions about what you may need to do differently to achieve the desired outcome. The book said to do it this way isn’t a good enough answer.”
Steve was always available to answer a “QuickQuestion”. He enjoyed video games, following Hawkeye football, and his beloved lab, Pepsi.
Steve is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Vercande and his sister, Dr. Kim Vercande, both of Hills; aunts and uncles, Eddie (Robert) Knebel of Riverside, Steve (Ann) Donahue and Bill (Chris) Donahue, both of Iowa City, Eldon (Peggy) Vercande, Dale (Darlene) Vercande, and Benny (Jan) Vercande, all of North English; numerous cousins and extended family.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his grandparents, Cloyd and Martha Vercande, Edward Carson, and Clem and Kathleen Donahue; aunt and uncles, Leo Vercande and Maryann (Larry) Fuller; and Pepsi, his lab.
