Frank was born on September 25, 1945 in Iowa City to Frank Dolezal, Sr. and Irene Robertson. He was raised in Iowa City where he attended Horace Mann Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Iowa City City High in 1966. Frank worked at the Metoo Grocery Store, Homewood Electric, Whiteway Grocery Store, Novatny Bike Shop and World of Bikes. He met his wife, JoAnn Ceccon on a blind date and were married at Danforth Chapel in Iowa City on September 18, 1976 and together raised three beautiful children.

Frank joined the Iowa City Fire Department on July 1, 1970 and retired from the ICFD on September 29, 2000. He loved the brotherhood that the ICFD brought into his life. After he retired, whenever he would hear the sirens, he would say “go get em’ boys!”

Frank started up the Johnson County Archers Club in 2001 in order to share his love and knowledge of archery and the great outdoors with others. He loved fishing and just spending as much time outside whether it be hunting, fishing or tending to his garden.

Frank is survived by his loving children: Daniel J. Dolezal or North Liberty, Iowa, Darin (Erin) Dolezal of Lakewood, Colorado and Traci (Dan) Heitzman of Hills, Iowa; sister, Sandy (Tom) Duwa of Riverside, Iowa; grandchildren: Zachary Bogs, Zoe Dolezal, Noah Dolezal, Henry Dolezal, Rosemary Dolezal and Anthony Heitzman as well as two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, JoAnn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family c/o Darin Dolezal in order to be used for a future memorial fund.
