Kathryn Messer died peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022 with long-time friend, Tova Vitiello, holding her hand.

A private burial will take place at Grant Cemetery in Rome, Iowa.

Kathryn was born in Henry County, Iowa on March 8, 1943, to Elzie and Dorothy (Kane) Messer. After graduation from Mt. Pleasant High School, Kathryn attended the University of Iowa where she received certification in Geriatric Studies.

Kathryn was the first person in the state of Iowa to be hired as a pharmacy technician. She worked at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Kathryn was known for her softball skills. She was a fantastic short-stop! More than that, Kathryn was admired for her devotion to loved ones and her loyalty to friends. She was a kind and gentle person with a witty sense of humor.

Kathryn is survived by those who loved her, Tova Vitiello, Judy Miner, Jo Rabanold and Jenn Lopez.

Her parents and brothers (Bob and David) preceded her in death.
