How can we summarize a life so beautiful and so sweet? How joyfully she leapt over, rammed through, and destroyed all obstacles before her. How fun she was for all, how resourceful, creative and cute could anyone be?

Cindy Leigh Baldwin, 57, of Iowa City, passed away on November 16, 2022. Cindy was born in Des Moines on July 20, 1965 and, with her big brother, Tom, moved with her parents to Oklahoma and California before returning to Des Moines as an art-loving kid.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Public Space One (South) in Iowa City.

Cindy Baldwin shot out from her youth as a beautiful, fun loving and resourceful teenager. She loved adventure and was afraid of nothing. She captured her husband, Eric’s heart forever in 1980 and they blasted through their high school and college careers by getting married in 1986 and obtaining their Bachelor of Arts degrees shortly thereafter.

As a young art educator, Cindy was ahead of her time. She knew the benefits of art to everyone's lives and she lived her art every single day. However, her greatest creations were her children and motherhood was a true expression of creative devotion and unconditional love.

Cindy was spontaneous and resourceful. Every time you would turn around, she would be bringing you something interesting and cool: free mulch, free wood, free swimming pools, free furniture. Everything she did to try to make each child feel happy and to try and surprise them with something unique and special such as airplane lessons, camping trips, drives to beaches and to parks. She just loved to see her children and grandchildren doing well and she celebrated their successes so much. She would do anything for her children. She was so supportive and was a fighter and an advocate for us all. She could literally make anything happen.

Cindy was the most wonderful grandmother to Myles and Naomi Creach. Her natural ability to do for others translated into pure and unconditional love for her grandchildren. Without hesitation, she would rearrange her entire world and move mountains to spend time with them. Even shortly after recovering from knee surgery, you could count on Cindy being there for them. Following up a tea party with a bike ride around the block only to come back for a dance party with Naomi. Enduring the cold wind and rain to cheer louder than anyone for whatever sport Myles was in at the time. Cindy enriched her grandchildren in ways that cannot be replicated. She cultured them in arts, nature, music and life exploration. Although she didn't get to witness them becoming young adults in this world, her bold and loving imprint will forever be upon them as they grow.

Cindy Baldwin was an amazing woman. She was so many things in life: a mother, a wife, a teacher, a grandmother, a giver, a fighter, an artist and a lover. She inspired so many people with her pure heart and good intentions. She represented a way of life, in living to serve others. She was a child at heart, innocent yet sparkling with passion. Her brain was beautiful and creative. Even though she struggled through many unfair obstacles in life, she never denied her loved one’s help. There was nobody like Cindy. She didn’t abide by societal rules and did what she felt was just; putting her ahead of her time and gone too soon. Anyone who got to experience Cindy felt love, and may those connections be what carries on her light.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Eric Creach; children: Alice, Logan and Gus (Sade) Creach; grandchildren: Myles and Naomi Creach; father, Thomas Baldwin (Chris Conyers); brother, Thomas Baldwin, Jr. (Annie) and her half-sister, Elle Baldwin Conyers. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon and her maternal and paternal grandparents: Margaret and Jervas Baldwin and Ruth and Joseph Rissman.

According to Cindy’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
