Michael R. Slezak passed away November 28, 2022 in Iowa City surrounded by his family. He was 40 years old.

Mike was born August 31, 1982 in Iowa City, the son of Stephen and Ruth (Raymond) Slezak. Mike was known for his ability to fix things. He loved building, construction and carpentry; and built his life to incorporate those things. He enjoyed adventure and the outdoors. He was an audiophile and would build his own speaker boxes and sound systems to produce the quality of sound that he wanted. Mike was a great cook and baker. Most of all, Mike was loved for his personality - his kindness, goofy sense of humor, and his ability to listen and make you feel heard. He was an exceptional person and will be missed by so many.

Mike’s family include his beloved wife, Hayley; daughter, Jean; siblings, Rachel (Kyle Flippo) Slezak and Sandra Slezak; parents, Stephen and Ruth; and nephew, Art.

A simple cremation for Mike has been arranged in accordance with his wishes. A celebration of life is being planned and service details will be published when they are available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s memory are suggested to the National Park Foundation or to Urban Boatbuilders.
