Mark Gerard Rohret, beloved husband, father, brother and son, passed from this earth on October 26.

Mark was born 5/17/1960 as the 5th son to Mary and Robert Rohret of Iowa City, IA. He graduated from Regina High School in 1978 and went to work for Northwestern Bell/Quest. He married his first wife in 1980 and had three children. On March 7, 1992, he married Kathryn Dierickx, originally of Davenport, IA, and his family of Jesse, Brian, and Julie, grew to include Kathy’s son, Brandon, and their daughter Olivia.

Since August of 2017, Mark worked as a transportation manager for APC Construction in Golden, Colorado. He loved working with his crew there--he carried a deep affection for each member.

Mark was an avid auto racing fan and under the watchful eyes of his young children, built a racecar that he raced briefly at Hawkeye Downs. He and his sons later rebuilt a Camaro that they drag raced at Portland International Raceway in Oregon.

He enjoyed travel, making several road trips across various parts of the Western US and Canada. One such trip motivated him to accept a transfer with Quest to Alamosa, Colorado in 2001. Mark, Kathy and Olivia moved again in 2003 to Portland, where they lived until 2015 when Olivia left for college. The empty nesters moved to Denver where they lived until late September of this year. Mark’s favorite trip was to Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark. When he learned his time was short, the only place he wanted to be was back home in Iowa, this way he could spend the latter part of his days near most of his adult children as well as extended family and friends.

His biggest joy in life was becoming a grandparent, and felt extremely fortunate to have 5: Charlotte, Hoyt, Sutter, Cassidy and Axel.

He leaves behind his wife of over 30 years, Kathy, sons: Brandon (Deepa), Jesse (Rachel), and Brian (Stephanie), daughters: Julie (Rikki) and Olivia, five grandchildren, his four brothers: Chuck (Chris), Steve (Sharon), Pat (Lori) and Bob (Alice), in-laws: Sara Webb, Melanie Dierickx, Jodie Dierickx, and Barb (Chris) Jones, along with many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law.

Visitation will be held Sunday October 30, 2022 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Please join the family for a celebration of life at 2:00 PM with a luncheon to follow at The Kirkwood Room. Private burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Mark has requested donations be made to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center for cancer research in Iowa City.
