OBITUARY.

DIED OF CHOLERA, in St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday the 23d of June, NEIL C. BOYE, Merchant of this city.

Mr. B. visited St. Louis for the purpose of renewing his stock of goods, and whilst thus employed, fell a victim to the fearful scourge which for some months past has been desolating that city. Seldom have we witnessed so deep and general an expression of sorrow for the dead, and sympathy for the living, as in this instance. Mr. Boye was a native of Copehagen[sic], in Denmark. In early life he became a merchant in the city of his birth. Endowed by nature with a strong mind, and a warm heart, both admirably tempered by a sound education, and surrounded with affluence, the morning of his life gave promise of a calm and happy career. But, a sad change was at hand! His hopes and his fortunes together with the hopes and fortunes of ten thousand others were broken up and scattered in the great political and financial convulsions consequent upon the repeated invasions, of the North of Europe by Napoleon. With the remnant of his shattered fortunes Mr. B. emigrated to the city of Philadelphia, where pecuniary misfortune again befel[sic] him, and left him with a helpless family, in a strange land and in an almost destitute condition. At an early period in the settlement of Iowa, Mr. B. removed hither and by his industry, amiability, and strict integrity, once more attained to a fair degree of property as a Merchant. In his relations of husband and father he was eminently affectionate. As a citizen, we could name no one who felt a deeper solicitude for the happiness and prosperity of the whole community. Despite his many trials and reverses, he remained true to his nature – his kindness of heart, and his honesty of purpose never wavered for a moment. Peace to his ashes! – And may He, who tempers the winds to the bereaved and afflicted heart, deal gently with his sorrowing family.
