Jeffrey W. Vargus, Iraq war veteran and member of the 101st Airborne Division, passed away October 19, 2022. He was 54 years old.

Jeff was born January 15, 1968 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of James and Linda (Ford) Vargus. Jeff was very proud of his service to his country and his enlistment with the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles”. His time spent with his unit brothers and the subsequent friendships that developed were treasured. Jeff will be remembered for his outgoing and charismatic personality. He was a very wise person with a big heart. He could connect with anyone and had no trouble finding common ground with a stranger. His legacy will be carried on by everyone who loved him.

Jeff’s family include his mother, Linda Vargus; siblings, James (Sharon) Vargus Jr., Lorri Beth (Greg) Kelly; Desire DeAnne (Jason) Raehal and Tony (April) Vargus; step grandson, Anthony Hernandes; nieces and nephew, Jessica, Jaime, Lily, Laney, Alexandra, Hunter, Ethan, Kaden, Lorri, Alaina, Jameson, and Ambrose; and ex-wife and close friend, Sharon Cantrell. Sadly, Jeff is preceded in death by his father, James; grandparents, James and Nova Vargus, Warren and Evelyn Ford, and Nellie Ford; and multiple aunts and uncles.
