Richard “Dick” Nordyke, 76, of Iowa City, Iowa passed away on October 5, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A brief memorial service will be held Monday October 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, with a lunch following the service.

Richard was born on September 24, 1946 in Washington, Iowa to Walter and Nona (Netser) Nordyke. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School before serving in the marines during Vietnam War. Richard spent his career as a construction worker in Iowa, Florida and Georgia. He married Shirley Allen on January 6, 1984 in Macon, Georgia, where they lived for 32 years before she passed away in 2016. It was then that his sister, Judy knew he needed to be closer to family due to his health. Judy moved him into her home, where he lived since 2016.

Richard was a true Southern gentleman. He was a gentle soft spoken man with few words and a love for his family.

He is survived by his son Rich (Patty) Cook of Coggon, IA; his granddaughter Chrissy (Adam) Tietz of Nebraska; great grandson Walker; three siblings Judy McKillip of Iowa City, IA, Dixie (Ron) Baker of Tampa, FL, and Duane (Linda) Nordyke of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law Taddy Nordyke of Rogers, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother Jerry Nordyke.
