Vera L. Trolliet, 87, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Legacy Gardens in Iowa City, IA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edgerton, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Fassett Cemetery in Edgerton. Pastor Carl Seeger and Pastor Wilfred Grieser will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church- 310 North Johnson Street, Iowa City, IA 52245 or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church- 207 E. High Street, Edgerton, WI 53534.

Vera was born on January 19, 1918 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Reverend Renke J. and Emma (Cassens) Deye. On January 27, 1918 Vera was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pinckneyville. On May 29, 1931 Vera was confirmed in her father’s parish in Wittenberg, Missouri. Vera’s baptism, confirmation and marriage were all officiated by her father, Rev. Renke J. Deye. She graduated from Perryville High School in Perryville, MO on May 21, 1931. After graduation she went on to receive her degree as a Registered Nurse at Lutheran Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

On July 16, 1941 Vera was united in marriage to Rolland E. Trolliet. Beginning in 1948, Vera worked as a part-time registered nurse at the Edgerton Memorial Community Hospital in Edgerton, Wisconsin. She also provided private duty nursing care for patients in their homes in the Edgerton area. In June 1961 she became a full-time staff nurse at Edgerton Memorial Community Hospital working on the surgical floor. Later she worked as the Admissions Nurse and R.N. Floor Supervisor. She retired from nursing in March of 1982. She honored her pledge to “devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care” for 34 years.

For many years Vera was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edgerton. She was a member of the Service Guild and choir and served as choir director for a number of years. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, gardening, and her travels to many different locations in the country. Attending her sons’ baseball games was one of her favorite pastimes.

For the past nine years Vera lived in Iowa City. Throughout those nine years she felt very appreciative of her many thoughtful caregivers, most especially Dr. Paul Mulhausen from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

She is survived by her two sons; Donald Trolliet and his wife Darlene of Huntley, Illinois, Richard Trolliet and his wife Donna of Iowa City, by her grandchildren; Christen Bell (Paul) of Iowa City, Todd Trolliet (Amy) of Coralville, Iowa, Jared Trolliet of North Liberty, Iowa, Traci White (Ed) of Geneva, Illinois, Bradley Trolliet (Jennifer) of Rockford, Illinois, Tiffani Haught (Mike) of Gilberts, Illinois, by her great-grandchildren; Teagan Bell, Emerie Bell, Raquel Trolliet, Nicole White, Megan White, Jacob Trolliet and Zachary Trolliet. Vera is also survived by two nieces; Sandie Spies (Ed) of Barnhart, Missouri and JoAnn Lawson Thompson (Gene) of Herculaneum, Missouri.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Reverend Renke J. Deye and Emma Deye, her husband, Rolland E. Trolliet, one brother, Alvin J. Deye, one sister, Irene McIntyre and by one great-granddaughter, Morgan Ashley Haught.

Vera will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, a dedicated wife and a compassionate nurse.
