Rosamond L. Hanson, age 91 longtime resident of Iowa City died at her home on Friday, September 16, 2022.

A time for family and friends to gather will be held from 4 to 6 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with family remarks at 5:30 then concluding with sharing from those in attendance and military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Salvation Army. Rosamond Lee Weber was born January 8, 1931, in Sellersburg, Indiana the daughter of Louis and Jessie (Hottel) Weber. Following graduation from high school in New Albany, Indiana she enlisted in the United States Navy. This is where she met her future husband, Merlin Hanson and they were married on May 29, 1953. She worked for a number of years for Snap-On-Tools in Algona, Iowa before retiring and moving to Iowa City where she enjoyed serving her community in countless ways. She volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 28 years accumulating over 12,500 hours of service in her retirement years, Salvation Army free meal kitchens, Iowa City Hospice, and was a devout Christian active in her church, St. Marks United Methodist Church just to mention a few. She was also very proud of her military service belonging to the WAVES and Veterans for Peace. She was honored twice by the governor of Iowa for hours of service to her state and community. Rose was also a voracious reader with her own card catalog to track the thousands of books read and loved to sing and dance participating in multiple choirs and performance groups in the Iowa City area. She also took multiple daily walks in the downtown Iowa City area where she would greet everyone she passed with a warm “Hello” no matter who they were.

Her family includes two sons, Mark Hanson and John Hanson; daughters-in-law, Ginger Hanson and Lynette Holloway; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Linda Douglas and Barbara Weller; She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Linda; son, Glen; brother, Bob Weber; and sisters, Margaret Oesterritter, Dorothy Cross, Millie Wundrak, and Betty Weber.
