Dr. Arnold Yonnhae Chong, 95, of Iowa City, died peacefully at Briarwood Health Center in Iowa City on August 18, 2022.

In accordance with Dr. Chong’s wishes, no services are planned. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Mercy Hospital Foundation in Iowa City. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Arnold was born in Taegu, South Korea on June 8, 1927, the son of Choonbal Chong and Jumsoon Lee. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Seoul National University School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea and served as a member of the Korean Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict.

On June 25,1957, Arnold married Audrey Brenton in Chicago, IL. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1958. They had three children: Meesoon Shirley, Kyuchal Patricia, and Jayhong Andrew.

Arnold worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City as an anesthesiologist until his retirement in 1997. He was a proud member of the American Medical Association, The American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia.

Arnold is survived by his children: M. Shirley (James Isaacs, deceased) K. Patricia (Mark Gomez), and J. Andrew (Magdalene Moran), as well as grandchildren Lily Chong, Ptolemy Thomas Chong, Andrew Gomez, Mark Gomez, 2 brothers and 7 sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Chong was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey and a brother.
