Stanley W. Loebaka of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Hayward, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully August 4th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones in Iowa City.

Stan was born in Joliet, IL on October 17, 1934. He graduated from Joliet Township High School, and started working at Fitzgerald’s Furniture Store. He then began a career working for Caterpillar Tractor. Soon he was drafted and served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Stan returned to work for Caterpillar after his service overseas. In 1969, Stan - known to his family as Skip, partnered with his father and purchased Loebaka’s Resort on Chief Lake of the Chippewa Flowage in the Wisconsin northwoods. Stan and Donna moved their family to Hayward, WI in 1978. They opened Coast to Coast Hardware and eventually Ace Hardware. You could always find him helping customers find that certain “thingamajiggy” in one of the aisles.

Both retired in 2000 and became “Florida Snowbirds” until 2014. He and Donna lived on the Chippewa Flowage for 43 years prior to moving to Iowa. Stan was a member of the Lions, Moose and Rotary Club. He enjoyed the northwoods - sitting on the deck enjoying a cocktail and looking out at the lake with family and friends.

Stan is survived by his wife of 62 years Donna R. (Elberts), his three daughters; Laura (Mel) Kostalik of Port Charlotte, FL, Kristina Loebaka of Eau Claire, WI, and Danelle (Anthony) Stipes of Iowa City, IA; grandchildren; Nadia (James) Stevenson, Emma Rae Stipes, many granddogs and grandkitties, two sisters; Kathleen (Bernard) Tworek and Carole (Charles) Greer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Emily (Jungles) Loebaka, and his brother Thomas (Tim) Loebaka.

A private funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 16th at Spider Lake Golf Resort in Hayward, Wisconsin. Military Funeral Honors and burial will take place on Monday, October 17th at the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice. The family of Stan appreciates and wishes to thank everyone for all the acts of kindness and sympathy during this time.
