John Thomas Brown, 87, formerly of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away on July 9, 2022 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no public services will be held.

John was born November 26, 1934 in Kirksville, Missouri to Richard E. and Sylvia Faye (Rorabaugh) Brown. He graduated from Vermilion High School before earning his bachelors degree from Baldwin Wallace College.

John married Jean Marie Zych on July 7, 1956, and together, the couple raised their daughter, Kyle, in Avon, Ohio. They enjoyed 55 loving years together before she passed away in 2012.

John worked at the Post Office in for many years, retiring in 2008.

He was a self-described “car guy,” and enjoyed reading about and working on cars. He was also a voracious reader.

John moved to Iowa City in 2020 to be closer to his daughter due to his health. His daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter are thankful they were able to spend his final days by his side and will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his daughter Dr. Kyle Brown, son-in-law Hasan Hicsasmaz, and granddaughter Innes Hicsasmaz, all of Iowa City, Iowa.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother William “Bill” Brown.
