Bridget Mary (Fitzgerald) Barba, of Oxford, Iowa, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, July 8, 2022, in the presence of her loving family.

Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at St. Thomas More Church in Coralville. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be held at a later date.

Bridget was born in Lake City, Iowa, on May 1, 1969, to Raymond and Alice (Cain) Fitzgerald, and was welcomed home by five loving siblings. She grew up in Pomeroy, Iowa, and graduated from Pomeroy Community School. She attended Iowa Central Community College, studying early childhood development, and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1990 to work as a nanny.

She met her husband, Leon Eduardo Barba, in California, and they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pomeroy, Iowa on July 11, 1992. They settled in Glendora, California where Bridget completed technical training as a dental assistant and worked in a private dental office until Leon’s passing on August 4, 2000.

Bridget returned to Iowa and worked at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry for twenty-two years. Bridget enjoyed her work and the children she served. She was very proud of the students who went through the program, and she followed their successes through the years. Her colleagues were also her dear friends, and they provided loving support for her during this past difficult year.

Bridget enjoyed spending time with her beloved nieces and nephews and doted on her godson and great nephew, John Jesse. She was so proud of them all and they knew Bridget was the “cool aunt”.

Bridget found special joy in her two dogs, Foxxy and Daisy. She was a mean competitor in any card game, especially euchre, and had an infectious laugh and love of life. She was selfless and genuine in her care for others. She loved listening to and singing along with all kinds of music, watching scary movies, making amazing food for her family and friends, doing crafts, and her beautiful tattoos.

Bridget was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, Iowa. She is survived by her siblings and in-laws, Maggie and Dean Jesse (North Liberty, IA), Matt and Sheryl Fitzgerald (Omaha, NE), Christopher and Peggy Fitzgerald (Webster City, IA), and Theresa and Kevin Benjamin (Chicago, IL), ten nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, and a loving extended family and friends.

Bridget was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Barba, her brother John Fitzgerald, her parents Ray and Alice Fitzgerald, grandparents Frank and Blanche Cain, and John and Maggie Fitzgerald.
