Velma Delores Hochstetler, 85, of Iowa City, died on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, IA surrounded by family.

A celebration of Velma’s life will be held at a later date. Please check back for the details in the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward the Hochstetler family in care of Duane Hochstetler.

Velma was born on August 15, 1936, in Iowa, the daughter of Fred Charles and Wilma Irene (Appleby) Tharp. She was an Iowa City High School graduate and groomed dogs in Iowa City for 27 years.

On May 4, 1955, Velma married Sherman Hochstetler in Illinois. They had two children, Debra and Duane.

Velma enjoyed spending time with her family, camping and had a fondness for animals.

Velma is survived by her son Duane (Patty) Hochstetler, 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter Debra Conway.
