Patricia was born March 19, 1933, in Atalissa, Iowa to John and Gertrude (Smith) Milder. Coming from a family with 11 brothers and 5 sisters, Pat learned the value of a tight knit family at an early age. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City before attending college. Pat married the love of her life Glenn Kasper, on October 10, 1953, in Iowa City. The couple spent 68 memorable and devoted years together, raising their six children on the family farm.

Pat was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. Pat’s love will be greatly missed by her family and many others outside of her family who called her “Mom” or “Grandma Pat”. Her door was always open and there was always a place at her table, especially for Sunday Supper.

If you knew Pat, you knew that she was famous for her “puppy” blankets in addition to many quilts and comforters that she made with love to give to family, friends and those in need. To know Pat was to love Pat and you could be sure she would love you right back.

Pat had a strong work ethic all her life. In addition to raising her children and helping Glenn on the farm, she worked at Eicher Florist for many years. Pat then worked as a bookkeeper for The University Athletic Club for 24 years followed by 14 years at Universal Climate Control, retiring in 2012. Retirement allowed her to regularly check in on her children and grandchildren which was appreciated by everyone.

Pat was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Johnson County Cattlewomen, and Iowa Farm Bureau, serving on the board of directors for many years.

Pat was a beloved member of the community. She enjoyed entertaining guests and loved hosting large family and neighborhood potlucks on the farm with family and friends, some with over 200 guests. She and Glenn also loved to dance and belonged to several regular card clubs until her health slowed her down.

In healthier times Pat never turned down an opportunity to travel. An annual favorite was camping at the Iowa State Fair. She started getting the camper ready days before and enjoyed spending the entire time there, welcoming a steady stream of family and friends to visit, eat, and play cards. She also loved new places and adventures. The family knew that anytime an opportunity arose, she would immediately start planning and couldn’t wait to go.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68-years, Glenn Kasper of Oxford, IA; five children Kathleen Desterhaft (Doug Smith) of North Liberty, IA; Mary Lou (Bill) Theobald of Washington, DC; Jerome (Cindy) Kasper of North Liberty, IA; Nancy (Orey) Schwitzer of Coralville, IA; and Richard (Stefanie) Kasper of Oxford, IA; daughter-in-law Teresa Kasper of Tiffin, IA; 12 grandchildren Katie, Laura, Peter, Natalie, Jesse, Bryan, Emily, Alison, Alaina, Amber, Joshua, and Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; two brothers, Gerald Milder of Columbus Junction, IA; Eugene (Betty) Milder of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law Joan Milder of Davenport, IA; Marilyn Milder of Solon, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Eugene Kasper, nine brothers; Lawrence, Joseph, Donald, Edward, Paul, Maurice, Bernard, John and Leonard, and five sisters; Sister Mary Margaretta Milder, Louise McMullen, Wilma Dietsch, Elizabeth Frantz, and Gertrude Nicholas.

Pat’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital for the love and care given to Pat.
