Roger L. Sweeting, age 86 of Iowa City, died Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 3:30 pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Roger’s memory to First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Roger Lee Sweeting was born July 25, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Noble and Lola (King) Sweeting. Roger attended schools in Iowa City graduating from City High School in 1954. He married Joyce G. Herdliska on September 15, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. For over 50 years Roger was a fixture at Linder Tire, working well into his eighties. As a lifetime resident of Iowa City, and father of two boys, he was always active in their lives. For a number of years he was scout leader for Troop 212; He enjoyed his gardening around his house, and had even ridden RAGBRAI.

His family includes his wife, Joyce; son, Ric Sweeting (Janet Stewart Sweeting); 2 grandchildren, Brett Sweeting (JoAnne) and Devon Stewart Sweeting; and one great-grandson, Noah Sweeting.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers, 2 sisters, and son, Dale Sweeting.
