Duane Joseph Rummelhart, 92, of Iowa City, died on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Burial will follow the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. There will be a luncheon for family and friends following the burial from 2-4:30pm at the Iowa City American Legion Post 17 (3016 Muscatine Ave, Iowa City.) Food and drinks will be provided. A rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Visitation will follow the rosary until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Duane was born on March 7, 1929 in Hills, Iowa to Roy and Laverna (Gringer) Rummelhart. He grew up on a farm near Hills and graduated (as class president) from St. Mary’s High School in Riverside, Iowa. On October 25, 1950, Duane married Rosemary Laughlin at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City and to this union, eight children were born.
Duane worked as a delivery driver for Borden’s Ice Cream for 10 years and then worked for Jaydon Distribution for over 23 years until his “retirement.” He rounded out his working years at the University of Iowa Hospital in food service for 3 years. In his spare time Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his family and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye football, basketball, and wrestling teams.
Duane is survived by his children: Mike (Beth) Rummelhart of Kenosha, WI, Rick (Helen) Rummelhart of Plymouth, MN, Dave (Dee) Rummelhart of Ottumwa, IA, Ann Devine of Iowa City, IA, Steve (Angie) Rummelhart of Iowa City, IA, Don (Pat) Rummelhart of Roselle, IL, and Catrina (Kurt) Elia of Durham, NC; grandchildren: Brian (Jodi) Rummelhart, Shawn (Laura) Berry, Nicole Rummelhart, Roy Rummelhart, Erica Devine, Amanda (Joe) Fisher, Francis Rummelhart, Abby Rummelhart, Alex (Jenna) Rummelhart, Adam (Claudia) Rummelhart, Jack Elia, Harry Elia, Micah Elia, and Juliette Elia; great-grandchildren: Cali Rummelhart, Justin Rummelhart, Roger Wedlake, Caitlyn Devine, Briar Sedlacek, Noah Fisher, Isaac Fisher, Caleb Fisher, and Lucia Rummelhart; great-great-grandchildren: Bayleigh, Asher and Denny; siblings: Leroy Rummelhart of Coralville, IA, Muriel Metz of Riverside, IA, Paul (Trisha) Rummelhart of Hills, IA, and Helen (Ben) Studnicka of FL. Duane is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Laverna; his beloved wife, Rosemary; daughter, Linda; sister, Mary Yeggy; sister-in-law, Connie Rummelhart; brothers-in-law: Dick Yeggy and John Metz; granddaughter Shana Berry and grandsons: Jarrad Rummelhart and Philip Berry.
