Corinne L. Schoer of Iowa City went to be with her Lord & Savior on February 3, 2022 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Bird House Hospice Home in Iowa City.

Corinne was born July 12, 1932 at home in Lakefield, MN to Rudolf and R. Della (Ackerman) Hoefker, the oldest of three children. Her education began in a one-room school and continued at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN where she graduated from high school in 1950 and college in 1952. While at Bethany, she met the love of her life, Lowell Schoer.

After several years teaching at Lutheran elementary schools, she and Lowell were married in May 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rost Township (MN), where she had also been baptized and confirmed. After their marriage, Lowell completed his enlistment in the navy and the couple lived in San Francisco and Charleston, SC, before moving to Iowa City where Lowell attended the University of Iowa.

Corinne was a stay-at-home mom who raised four children. She also was a substitute teacher at several local Christian pre-schools. She was active in the church wherever she lived, serving as a Sunday School teacher, organist, committee member, and officer in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. In her later years, she enjoyed teaching foreign students and their wives through the International Student Ministry for English Conversation.

Corinne and Lowell enjoyed bird watching throughout their marriage of over 60 years. In their travels around the country, binoculars were always within reach. They enjoyed nature and all its offerings in both their home north of Iowa City and a summer home in northern Minnesota. Corinne also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting in her spare time.

Corinne was preceded in death by her husband Lowell, son Jonathan, parents Rudolf and Della and a sister Dorothy.

She is survived by her children Renee Schoer of Valparaiso, IN, Alan Schoer (Antonia Baur Schoer) of Dubuque, Iowa, and Darren Schoer (Julie Horst) of Madison, WI; daughter in-law Deborah Fedge; eight beloved grandchildren (Sam, Anna, Nate, Andrew, Eric, Kathryn, Jackson, and Natalie), her sister Bernadine (Richard) Nolte, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Coralville, IA at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 19. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, February 18 and 9:15-9:45 AM, Saturday, February 19 at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Arrangements made by Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
