"The pipes, the pipes are calling."

On February 2, 2022 at 4:09 PM, the lord called home one of his righteous servants, Gary Joe Moore at the age of 74. His body was not made for long suffering and God said now is the time to Rest your soul, ease your mind and be at peace.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Chuck Adam officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville, Iowa. We respectfully request everyone attending the services wear a mask.

Gary Joe Moore was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 2,1947 to Joseph “Joe” Milton and Helen Margaret (Young) Moore. He was raised in Des Moines, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1965 before pursuing a degree in special education from Drake University.

After teaching for many years, he also did a variety of driving related jobs that he thoroughly enjoyed as traveling brought him great joy. Gary had a great work ethic and worked up until 2020 due to the pandemic.

In 1977, Gary married his best friend and soulmate, Patricia Finan and spent 45- memorable years together. Gary and Trish lived in different parts of the world before settling in Iowa in 1999. Aside from being a devoted husband, Gary was also a loving father to his three children Joe, Sean and Joellen. His children and grandchildren will remember him as the affectionate, gentle, patient and kind father and grandfather he was. He adored his sister Joellen Shoemaker of Iowa City and was the sweetest brother anyone could ask for. The two shared a very special bond that she will forever treasure.

Gary loved all things trains, planes and automobiles. His faith and trust in our Lord was extremely important to him. But there was nothing he loved more than being surrounded by his family. If you knew Gary, you knew he had a quick wit, and always had something funny or brilliant to say. He had the ability to see the light in difficult situations and his presence could light up a room at any given moment.

Gary's memory and bright spirit will forever be held close to those who loved him and those whom he loved. He was a friend to all and would help anyone in need with no strings attached, a true angel on earth. The world certainly was a little bit better of a place with Gary living in it.

Gary’s life was well lived and he was well loved. His friendliness, kindness and devotion to family, friends and his faith is a tribute to all on earth.

For now we will all be jealous of the angels, until we meet again. "See ya soon, but not too soon."

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him
-1 Thessalonians 13-14 ❤️

He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Margaret Moore; two sons Alan “Joe” Joseph Moore and Sean Michael Moore; one daughter Joellen Ann Roberson; eight beautiful grandchildren Quinton, Ayden, Kieron, Charlotte, Finnian, Mearah, Maverick and Norie; and one sister Joellen Shoemaker.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Ryley Joseph Moore.
