Evelyn M. Nichols, 100, died peacefully with her grandson beside her, on January 12, 2022 at Windmill Manor in Coralville.

Evelyn chose to be cremated. No services are planned. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Born on Independence Day in 1921 to Albert and Anna Schoonhoven, Evelyn grew up near Freeport, Illinois and attended schools in Baileyville, Illinois.

She worked at Pella Rolscreen for 16 years, retiring in 1984. Evelyn lived in Harvey, Iowa for 36 years, moving to Coralville in 2005. Evelyn enjoyed sewing and any time spent with family.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Digman (Carol) of Agoura Hills, California; 2 grandsons, Jeff Cole (Joni) of Ortonville, Minnesota and Marty Cole (Karen) of Marion;
4 great-grandchildren, Brittany Cole of West Liberty, Dylan Cole of Cedar Rapids, Makayla Clark of Des Moines, Allison Cole of Muscatine and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn is preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Cole; a brother Sherman Schoonhoven; 5 sisters, Ruth Philhower, Josephine Ruter, Grace Anderson, Ethel Kochsmier and Viola Keister, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Windmill Manor in Coralville for their compassionate care and friendship to Evelyn during her time there.
