Cindy M. Funk, 60, of Iowa City, died on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at UIHC surrounded by family.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be from 4-6pm on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service Iowa City; a time of sharing will begin at 6pm. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to cancer research at The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Research Center at UIHC or The American Diabetes Association.

Cindy was born on December 31, 1960, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of James Edward Bender and Mary Irene Jones.

For over thirty years, Cindy worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. She worked in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Procedural Sedation Team, and ended her career in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Cindy was married to Ted Dohman for many years and together they had one daughter, Heather. Cindy married Clarence “Hop” Funk on May 12, 2001, in Iowa City. Hop passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2017.

Cindy enjoyed red pin bowling, playing cards, painting, traveling, girls’ trips, Black Friday shopping, and watching “Survivor”. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, camping with the family and cuddling with Joe.

Cindy is survived by her daughter Heather (Tom) Wyjack of Solon, IA; stepchildren Josh, Matt, and Rachel Funk of Iowa City; grandchildren Adia and Ashten Wyjack, and Rylee and Jovie Funk; mother Mary (Jim) Barnett of Ft. Madison; sister Barbara Janssen of Atlanta, GA; father James Bender; several nieces, nephews and extended family and the family cocker spaniel, Joe Cocker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hop Funk; maternal grandparents Raymond and Mary Jones; paternal grandparents George and Clarice Bender; brothers-in law Kenny Funk and Larry Funk; sister-in-law Gloria Kelley and Hop and Cindy’s first adopted puppy, Patch.
