Miss Letitia Grogan,82, life-long resident of Iowa City, died at 7:30 o’clock this morning at her home at 630 South Capitol Street after a lingering illness.

Born May 24, 1858, she taught for 65 years, 54 of them in Iowa City schools. She graduated from St. Agatha’s academy here in 1874.

Miss Grogan was the daughter of James and Mary Grogan, pioneer residents who settled on the same site where Miss Grogan later built her home.
She raised a nephew, James Murphy, who died in 1918, leaving a widow and two children. The two children, after their mother’s death, were also raised by Miss Grogan.

The two grandnieces, Miss Mary Letitia Murphy and Mrs. John Sheppard, are the sole survivors. Miss Grogan was a member of St. Patrick’s church and the Immaculate Conception sociality and Queen’s Daughters of the church.

The remains will be taken from the Hohenschuh mortuary to the residence. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
