Dolores Wenndt, 89, of Iowa City, passed away on October 4, 2021, with her children by her side. She was a kind, loving and warm-hearted soul. Truly one of a kind; she left a lasting impression on many.
Dolores was born on September 25, 1932 on the family farm outside of Wheatland, Iowa to Ephrem and Lillian (Strackbein) Riedesel. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa.
Dolores graduated from Wheatland High School. She married Myron Wenndt on May 22, 1955 at St. Paul’s church. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2002 after 47 years of marriage. The family’s home was in Morton, Illinois for 54 years where they raised four children. Dolores worked over 40 years as a tax preparer, mostly at H & R Block. In 2014, Dolores moved to Legacy Retirement Community in Iowa City.
Dolores enjoyed traveling, including bus trips and visiting all 50 states. She delighted in family vacations and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Card games, bingo and friends were a highlight of living at Legacy.
Dolores is survived by her children: Denise (Myrl) Holida of Iowa City, Iowa; Greg (Sonia) Wenndt of Decatur, Illinois; Michelle Wenndt of Macomb, Illinois; and Stan (Tracy) Wenndt of Rome, New York; grandchildren: Matthew Holida, Jenna (Jake) Lager, Braden Wenndt, Elijah Wenndt, Joel Wenndt, Derek Wenndt, and Nicholas Wenndt and one great grandson, Colin Lager. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Myron and her baby brother, Eugene.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City. There will also be visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will be available for livestream viewing at: https://youtu.be/oq2h6G5_BVI Private interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery in Wheatland, Iowa.
