Robert A. “Bob” Price, 83 of Iowa City died Thursday, July 1, 2021, on his birthday at Briarwood Healthcare Center where he has resided since September of last year and where he has been so lovingly cared for. His family will always remember and cherish these beautiful people; thank you!
Robert A. Price was born July 1, 1938, in Iowa City the son of Lynn “Ike” and Florence (Bogs) Price. He attended Iowa City Schools graduating with the Class of 1956 from City High School. For a number of years “Bob” drove for his father’s cab company, Royal Cab Company. He then joined the Iowa City Post Office working there from 1971 till 1998. He was so proud of his work at the Post Office, taking great pride in his job and cherishing the many friends he made at the post office. Bob married Marda “Beth” Johnson on June 29, 1968. The couple lived in Iowa City until Bob retired from the Post Office and they moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1998. Bob returned to Iowa City after Beth’s death in 2010. He has enjoyed renewing old friendships and making new ones. He was a longtime member of the Odd Fellows and Moose Lodges. Bob enjoyed college basketball, in fact he managed a team in the city wide league sponsored by his father’s company, Royal Cab Company in earlier years. When he returned to Iowa City, he made his home at Walden Place where he settled in nicely and became an ambassador for them. Bob was an easy man to like, and he never met a stranger!
His family includes his sister-in-law, Denise Price; brother-in-law, Greg Johnson; nieces Lori Price, Jennifer Crawford (Craig) and Karen Price; and great-nephew, Jack Crawford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beth; and brother, Jack.
A time for family and friends to gather for a visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 Friday, June 9th. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service followed by a 2:30 graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
