Kim Lien Nguyen, 79, of Coralville, formerly of Freeport, Illinois passed peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Kim was born November 1, 1941 in Ben Tre, Vietnam. She married her childhood sweetheart of 62 years, Frank Khiem Ngo, and cherished many years of humor with him.
During the fall of Vietnam in 1975, Kim and her husband immigrated to America with their five children where they were sponsored by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena, Illinois.
Kim and her family later moved to Freeport, Illinois when she accepted a position at Micro Switch Division of Honeywell. In 2004, she retired from there with 28 years of service with her husband. In her retirement, Kim and her husband spent time traveling back to their native country, and visiting and spending quality time their children, grandchildren, and friends.
Kim enjoyed reading, listening to music, tending to her flowerbeds, and her quiet time. She was generous to those less fortunate than her, and often shared with the wounded and homeless when visiting Vietnam. She also had a deep appreciation of her faith.
Kim is survived by her son, Christopher Ngo of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three daughters, Lynn Blocklinger of Liberty Hill, Texas; Kristina (Paul) Decuitiis of Georgetown, Texas; and Amie (Paul) Ngo-Blocklinger of Coralville, Iowa; eleven grand children; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother; sister; son, Hau “Tom” Ngo; son-in-law, Bart Blocklinger.
Kim’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Legacy Senior Living and Serene Hospice Care of Iowa City for providing exceptional care and compassion for their mother during her final days.
A private family celebration of Kim’s life will be held at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City at 1:00 pm on June 3, 2021. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Rachke of Parkview Church. Burial service will be held on June 4 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, Illinois.
