Jane E. Setzer, passed April 30, 2021 in Coralville, Iowa. She was 83 years old.

Jane’s family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday, May 6, from 4-6 pm. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, May 7th, at 11 am (gathering at the cemetery at 10:30 am), at the South Amana Cemetery (Q street in South Amana, east of 220th trail and Q street intersection - two blocks north Hwy 6 trail). Guests are asked to please wear a mask during the service and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Jane was born October 29, 1937, to Rev. Albert and Lena (nee Fox) Hofrichter in Hamilton, Ohio. The daughter of a church planter, Jane lived many places throughout her life, including Hamilton, OH; Martinsburg, WV; Richmond, VA; and Iowa City before settling in South Amana, IA. Jane graduated from University High School (Iowa City), class of 1955 and the University of Iowa, class of 1959 with a degree in Library Science. While at the U of I, she met the love of her life, Roy. They were married on December 24, 1959 in Iowa City with her father officiating.

Jane was very involved in many organizations and clubs over the years. She ran her own Fuller Brush distributorship for a time and worked at various Amana businesses including the Ox Yoke Inn, Colony Haus, Colony Market Place, and Fern Hill Gifts. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Iowa City, which her father had pastored, and the Amana Church Society where her husband Roy served as an Elder. She loved being outdoors and was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and served as coleader for the Camp Fire Girls. Her volunteer interests included the Midwest Electric Railway in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and serving in the patient library at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where she logged over 1,000 volunteer hours. Jane loved her family and friends and treasured them immensely. She will be missed, but her memory will be carried by all who knew her.

Jane is survived by her cherished daughters, Lisa (Brad) Smotherman and Caroline (Judy Smith) Setzer; grandchildren, Ginalise (George) Horcher and Zach Smith; and great-granddaughter, Piper Amelia Horcher. Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Roy Theodore Setzer; and brother, Fred Hofrichter.

Memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Volunteer Services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
