Laurine Mae Fischer, 99, died peacefully Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Monday, May 3, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Church with Father Gary Beckman officiating. The funeral may be viewed on Zoom. The link is on Laurine’s obituary page at www.lensingfuneral.com under the Tribute Wall. Visitation will be prior to the funeral, 10 AM to 11 AM. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Wenceslaus Church.

Laurine was born January 30, 1922 in Belle Plain, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Christine (Wesley) Wieneke. She attended Belmont High School in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from University High School in Iowa City. On November 15, 1941 Laurine married William E. “Bud” Fischer in San Antonio, TX.

Laurine was a sportswear buyer for Alden’s Department Store in Iowa City for many years. She was also employed at West High School, prior to retirement.

Laurine was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Iowa City Moose “Grenadiers” dance team. Laurine spent a time of devotion each week at the St. Patrick Adoration Chapel. She and her husband loved to travel in their motorhome and wintered in warmer climates. Her most memorable trip was to Switzerland where she loved the beauty of the alps. Another memorable trip was to the Hawaiian Islands. Laurine loved all sports, the outdoors, fishing, playing cards, golfing, and she had a green thumb. Laurine had the luck of the Irish. Most important to her was her family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at Legacy Point and Mercy Hospital 3 West.

Laurine is survived by her sister, Darlene Mottet of Iowa City; her stepsisters, Marilyn Jensen and Pat Pirkl; her goddaughter, Kelly Royston; nieces and nephews, Mark (Heidi) Mottet, Steve (Brenda) Wieneke, Scott (Nanci) Wieneke, Jeanie Young, Susan (Andy) Code, Linda (Dwight) Mottet, Rene (Brian) Moore, Julie (Jon) Mazursky, and Lisa Harney; and extended family.

Laurine was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Alice Wieneke; her husband; her siblings, Richard Wieneke and Genevieve Masters; and stepsister, Betty Sedlacek.
