Jeannette E. Pregon, 86, of Iowa City, formerly of Ottumwa, died on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Briarwood Healthcare in Iowa City after a lengthy fight with Alzheimer’s.

Due to the COVID virus, private graveside services and urn burial will be held at Ottumwa Cemetery. Instead of flowers & plants, the family suggests memorials to Essence of Life Hospice in Amana. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Born December 21, 1934 in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Edwin and Florence (Anderson) Richards, Jeannette graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1952.

She married Orren Nicholson – the couple later divorced. Jeannette met and later married Edward Pregon on November 12, 1955 in Ottumwa. She worked at Graham’s Department Store until it closed and then was a familiar face for many years at Union Bank & Trust / US Bank until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting making baby booties for children of friends and family and beautiful dresses for her granddaughter.

Jeannette is survived by her son Jim (Karen) of Coralville and her grandchildren, Elayne (Steve) Gustoff of North Liberty and Dyami Nicholson, Takota Nicholson, Chenoa Nicholson and Lesharo Nicholson, all of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed Pregon, her brother Clarence “Butch” Richards and her son Mike Nicholson.
