A gathering for friends and family will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. A service of remembrance will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed for the many friends and family members of Judy. The link to watch the service may be found on the Tribute Wall on Judy’s obituary page at www.lensingfuneral.com

Judy was born December 14, 1939 in Mediapolis, IA to Samuel and Frances (Walberg) Cline. She grew up in Mediapolis and graduated from Huron High School. Judy then attended Augustana College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She married the love of her life, Jerold “Jerry” Best in 1970 at the Danforth Chapel in Iowa City, IA. The couple would spend more than 50 memorable and loving years together while raising their three children in Iowa City.

Judy was dedicated to her career as a Medical Technologist at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for more than 45 years. At age 62 Judy partially retired to focus on interests and hobbies, fully retiring at age 65 in 2005. Judy was often busier after retirement than she was before retiring which never went unnoticed. She was active in the community, both as a volunteer and member of many different organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Swedish Club, Project Green, Appalachia Service Project, Red Hat Society, and Goosetown Financial Club amongst many others.

Judy was deeply devoted to her faith amongst many other things in life and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City for over 50 years. Judy was a member of the Chancel Choir, Joyful Chimers, and Grace Notes women’s choir. Judy supported many mission projects and was active servant of God. Her giving heart and love of God was a part of who she was and who she will be remembered for.

Judy loved gardening and was an avid Hawkeye fan. To Judy, the only thing better than being a mother was being a grandmother and was proud of her children and grandchildren. Distance never came between the bond she shared with her children as they talked nearly every day, whether it was in person or over the phone. She loved others for who they were, was a joy to be around, and will be missed for the wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend that she was to all.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of Iowa City, IA; three children: Denise Best of Estacada, OR, Terry (Chris) Best of Iowa City, IA, Brenda (Joel) Krueger of Neenah, WI; one sister Barbara Schnicker of Mediapolis, IA, and three grandchildren Lindsay (Mathew) Kilworth, Leah Best, and David (Caitlin) Jokipii Krueger.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael Cline.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a gift in memory of Judy Best to support First United Methodist Music program, Habitat for Humanity, or Mercy Hospital Foundation.
