Laura A. “Laurie” Ihrig, 66, of Coralville, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, February 21, 2021.

Laurie chose to be cremated. A celebration of her life will be planned in the upcoming months. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Instead of flowers and plants, her family suggest memorials in her name to any food bank in Johnson County.

Born February 2, 1955 in Iowa City, the daughter of Francis “Merle” and Louise (Crain) Ihrig, Laurie grew up in Iowa City, graduating from Iowa City High School in 1973. She went on to receive her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids in 1976.

Laurie began her nursing career at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines and in 1981, transferred to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, where she worked until 2018, when she regretfully accepted retirement due to health reasons.

Survivors include her siblings, Brian Ihrig of Iowa City, Cynthia Lee of Davenport and Nina Ihrig of Coralville; nieces and nephews, Damien (Lori) Ihrig, Alexas Ihrig and Carl Brown, Jennifer (Kevin) Krzmarzick, Jonathan (LaDonna) Lee; great nieces and nephews, Oscar, August, Maddux, Lauren, Roman, and Lincoln; step-siblings, Terre (Richard) Dolphin of North Liberty and Michael Aicher of Solon; step-nieces and nephews, Julia (Eddie) Huffman, Lora (Patrick) Dolphin-Leahy, and Jeffrey (Deb) Dolphin; step-great nieces, Abigail Huffman and Lizzie (Jeff) Kostow and one step- great-great niece, Olivia Kostow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Harry Aicher and a brother in law, John Lee.
