Lorene (Sweet Pea) Rupp passed away unexpectedly in her home at Brown Deer Place, Coralville, on February 10, 2021. Born in Salem, Iowa on November 21, 1931 to Ralph and Velda White, She grew up on a dairy farm with six brothers and a sister. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High, married, and had four children to whom she was devoted, and remained, until her death, their number one cheerleader.
Lorene had many careers; in 1962 she opened the first pre-school in Eagle Grove, aptly called “Lorene’s Little Lambs.” She appeared in costume in Iowa Lottery television commercials and was a long time Avon lady. Over the years, she owned and managed rental properties; her tenants lovingly called her ‘Mom’ She kept her lawn and gardens immaculate. In her spare time she wrote poetry, winning the Editor’s Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry for her entry published in the anthology ‘Return to Forever.’
Sweet Pea talked to God every day. She loved animals, never met a stranger, and lifted up all those she knew with her kind words and sense of humor. She loved to laugh and had fun wearing her many goofy hats and sunglasses to the delight of her family and friends. She was always thankful, grateful and loving and passed that on to all who called her mom, my little Mom, Grammy, and Sweet Pea. Her family was the most important to her, and they felt her love and pride in each encounter. She was completely loved and will be completely missed.
She is survived by two brothers, Marlo and Lee White, two daughters, Cindy (David) Brown of Iowa City and Christene Rupp of Coralville, son Tim Rupp (Susie) of Rolla, Missouri, ten grandchildren, Matt (Marcela) Brown, Benjamin (Christy) Brown, Megan Rupp, Josh (Ashley) Rupp, Kyle (Leslie) Rupp, Joe (Stacie) Walker, Brandi (TJ) Thompson, Krissy (Justin) Marriott, Ashley (Brent) Taylor, Andrew (Channelle) Tyrrell, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Diane Douglas, 4 brothers and one sister,
A celebration of life will be held this summer, with internment in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her name to the Friends of the Animal Center
