Carl Tommy “Tom” Norris Sr, 81, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7th, 2021 at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville, Iowa.

He was born February 12th, 1939 in Findlay, Ohio, the son of Carl W. Norris and Lucille R. (Chambers) Norris. After graduating from Findlay High School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Bowling Green State University. On Sept. 10th, 1961 Tom married Mary Jane Forbush. He then served 3 years in the United States Army, stationed for one of them in Korea.

He worked in the automotive field for nearly 40 years as an Industrial Chemist. His career took his family to over 12 different cities, but upon retirement in 2002, he settled with his wife in Iowa City after having developed an affinity for it during their first stay there in the late 1980s.

From the time he was a child he was an avid Ham Radio operator, technology aficionado, math and science enthusiast, animal lover and ardent Ohio State Buckeyes football fan. For several years he bred and showed AKC caliber poodles and huskies. His quest for knowledge included trying to build a relationship with God through various Christian religions.

Tom is survived by his wife, their 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his sister Dorothy Helen Marsh and her extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Catherine Adell Norris (1918-1924) his deeply beloved grandson Dashiell Maccabee Codd (2007-2013) and multiple cherished pets.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no formal services.

Memorials may be directed to University of Iowa Dance Marathon or City High Dance Marathon in honor of his grandson in support of the pediatric cancer patients treated at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
