Born June 12th, 1935 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruth (Langland) Hudtloff. Louise grew up in many different towns and cities as her parents worked for the WWII war effort and teaching. Graduation from University High School, Louise later received a bachelors degree in medical technology from the University of Iowa.

She worked as a lab technician in Omaha and Des Moines, and after moving to Iowa City and what was then, Sheller-Globe manufacturing in Iowa City. When her son, Shawn, was old enough to have a paper route, Louise helped him deliver the Des Moines Register newspaper route—she then picked up her own route for the paper as well.

Louise married John “Scotty” Selch on Oct. 10th, 1961 in Omaha, NE and they divorced later. Again, she married in Nov. 25th, 1979 here at Trinity to Culver Young (who died in 1998).

She was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church here in Iowa City—where she sang in the choir, played clarinet in many ensembles, taught Sunday School classes, active in bible study fellowship, and help with healing touch services.

Louise was extremely active in her community—Iowa City Community Theater, played clarinet in the North Liberty Community Band and Senior Center Band. Louise spent her time singing with Voices of Experience, helping with political campaigns and committees for disabilities, clowning for community events and church, and joining groups like the Red Hat Society.

Always staying active, she was a member of the Iowa City Craft Guild, drew and painted bulletins for church, crafted ceramics, and worked on the Senior Center’s TV project.

Louise is survived by her son, Shawn (Michelle) with their children Ian and Katelynn and step-children Allen Young, Gregory Young, and Kim Tarrant and their families; sister Ruth Strackbein of Winthrop, MN and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, and a sister, Sarah Stang.
