Won Wung Choi, 87, of Iowa City, passed away February 1st, 2021, at The Bird House - Hospice Home of Johnson County. A private family service will be held. The burial is in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.

Won, the son of Maebong Choi and Hyun Kim, was born in Chonnam Province, South Korea, in 1934. He was united in marriage to Jong Min Chung on May 17, 1961, in Seoul, South Korea. Won was an anesthesiologist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 37 years before retiring as a full professor in 2015.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing tennis. Won loved playing golf and donned gloves in the middle of winter to continue to play. He scored a rare hole-in-one at the 17th hole of the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

Won is survived by his wife Jong; sons, James (Julia) Choi of Iowa City, and Steven (Liz) Choi of Puyallup, WA; and daughter, Suzie (Sunho) Kim of Seoul, South Korea; four grandchildren, Amanda and Alexander Choi and Eunice and Eric Kim; his sister, Jisoon Choi of South Korea.

Won was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
