George was born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928, in Menasha, WI, to Louis Sr. and Leona Tremmel and went to heaven on January 13, 2021, in Coralville, IA.

He and Rosemary (Rosie) Montonati were united in marriage in 1959 and were blessed with three children. George enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry and the family moved frequently, living in Menominee, MI, Rhinelander, Milwaukee and Appleton, WI. The last move was to Urbandale, IA, in 1976, where George was active in the Urbandale Booster Club, Lions Club, and Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church.

After retiring, George and Rosie traveled and saw much of the U.S., spending part of each winter in warmer climates. George was an avid storyteller, and a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers.

George passed on what would have been Rosie’s 90th Birthday, to celebrate the occasion with her in heaven.

Survivors include children, Marlene Beck, Laura (Greg) Gilbaugh, and Karl (Denise) Tremmel, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and extended family. George was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, both parents, brother Louis Jr., sisters Elaine and Joan (Pat) and son-in-law, David Beck.

Due to COVID, a Celebration of Life and burial will be held on a future date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church or the Urbandale Lions Club.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grand Living and Iowa City Hospice for their care and compassion.
