John “Darrel” Studer

John “Darrel” Studer, 73, of Iowa City, died peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, IA.

At Darrel’s request there will be no services at this time. Burial will be held at a later date at Grout Cemetery in Sharon Center, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Darrel was born on April 24, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Morris and Geneva (McCormick) Studer. He married Karen Pewitt on April 28, 1968 in Kalona, IA. Darrel and Karen had two daughters, Cheryl and Brenda.

For many years Darrel worked in the Dorm Food Service Program and Hygienics Lab at the University of Iowa. He retired in 2006. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the camping trips they would take.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Karen Studer; his children, Cheryl (Chris) Williams of Iowa City, IA and Brenda (Larry) Crawford of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren Stephanie Crawford, Thomas Crawford, Nicole Williams and Adam Williams; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Studer and Clara Studer, both of Mechanicsville, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Geneva Studer; his brothers, Donald Studer and Robert “Dale” Studer and his sister, Betty Scaffinger.
