Cindy A (Wernimont) Lucas

Cindy A. (Wernimont) Lucas of Oxford, Iowa passed peacefully on January 4, 2021, after fighting brain cancer for 16 years. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and a friend. Her life was full of compassion and service.

Cindy was born March 15, 1970, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Cheryl Wernimont. She was a 1988 graduate of Linn Mar High School in Marion. Cindy went to Notre Dame University in Indiana, graduating in 1992 with honors. She attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. in pre-law. She married Brian Lee Lucas in Denver, Colorado on 12/24/03. To this union, two sons were born, Miles Dylan and Conor Mitchell. Cindy worked in the trust area at First Trust in Denver, Colorado.

She was active with the Boys Scout and was den mother when her sons where in Cub Scouts. She was a loyal fan to the Notre Dame sports games and also a fan of the Denver Broncos. Her goal was to travel to all fifty states which she did complete and many foreign countries. She enjoyed working outside at her home in Oxford and always kept the lawn and flowers looking great. She was a member of Cedar Rapids Metro Pilot Club, Swisher American Legion Auxiliary, and the Notre Dame Alumni Club. Cindy will always be remembered having a positive attitude and a smile on her face.

Cindy is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Brian Lee Lucas; their sons, Miles Dylan and Conor Mitchell Lucas; mother, Cheryl Wernimont; brother, Brian Thomas and his sons, Zachery Thomas and Raymond James Wernimont; mother-in-law, Brenda Savage Williams and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Wernimont; her father in-law, John Lucas and both sets of grandparents. Cindy had two special friends, Jules Brown and Edie Castaneda who were her lifeline for memories; and a very special cousin, Lori Eads.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Cindy's memory may be directed to Cheryl Wernimont, 342 Aaron Ct. SW., Swisher, IA 52338. A celebration of Cindy's life will be held later in 2021.
