Larry Rutt, 81, died Monday, December 14 at his home in Iowa City surrounded by family.

Private family graveside services will be held at Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, IA. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Larry was born on May 13, 1939 in Columbus Junction, IA, the son of Floyd and Irene “Marie” Allen Rutt.

He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and worked for PSC Distribution in Iowa City for 57 years, retiring in 2018.

Larry married Carol Wasson on June 1, 1957 in North Liberty, IA.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On a warm sunny day, you could find him traveling a country road looking at cornfields – or sitting in his yard with his neighborhood friends.

Larry enjoyed people and people enjoyed him for his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family, Wrigley, his beagle companion; his life-long friends, Fairmeadows neighbors, Hy-Vee Coffee Club and his PSC family.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.

Survivors include his son Greg Rutt (Deb Cox) of North Liberty, IA; daughters Kristen Rutt (Eddie McKinley) of Iowa City; Lisa Murphy (Craig) of Washington, IA, and Kathy Rutt (Jeff Davis) of Iowa City; brother Lavon Rutt (Nancy) of Iowa City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law James “Skip” (Myrna) Sherlock of Iowa City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers and sisters-in law Donald (Jean) Rutt and James (Thelma) Rutt.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Iowa City Hospice for the personalized care and comfort you provided for our Dad in his final days.
