James A. Shepherd II, 72, of Solon, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord December 3, 2020 at
his home following a battle with Cancer.

Jim grew up in Iowa City, Iowa the oldest of six boys. Being raised in a Scouting family he
achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1966. Shortly
after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served two tours in
Vietnam as a Radio Supervisor, achieving the rank of Sergeant and received the Certificate of
Good Conduct and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. In 1971, he married Barbara Kitterman
at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, Iowa. Jim and Barb moved to Naples, Florida where he worked as a Police Officer for several years until switching careers and becoming a master electrician. During the years in Florida they had two sons, James (III) and Douglas. In 1980, Jim moved his family to Solon, Iowa where they lived on the family farm. While in Iowa he worked for the University of Iowa and then eventually joined the IBEW Local 405, where he
worked until his retirement.

Jim enjoyed being a Scout Leader of Troop 203 where his son, Jim was a Scout. He enjoyed
outdoor activities including canoeing, shooting, photography and was also a pilot. He l oved
spending time with his children and grandchildren and always had a dog by his side.

He is survived by his three brothers, Ned (Jackie) Shepherd of Bettendorf, Iowa, Todd (Julie)
Shepherd of Iowa City, Iowa, Jeff (Pam) Shepherd of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Christine
Sagon of Watkins, Iowa; son, James (Lisa) Shepherd of Solon, Iowa; son, Douglas Shepherd
of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Kylie and Connor Shepherd of Solon; and many beloved
nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Elaine Shepherd; wife of 37 years,
Barbara Shepherd; brothers Scott and John Shepherd; and special friend Kristin Anderson.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held with his close family and
friends, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2pm at Oakland Cemetery in Solon, Iowa with
Pastor Dan Bovenmyer officiating and military honors. A live stream will be available on
www.gayandciha.com for all who wish to join. Online condolences, memories and pictures can
be shared on the website.

The Shepherd family would like to thank the caregivers and staff from the Iowa City VA, Iowa
City Hospice, and Cedar Rapids Visiting Angels for their compassion and care for Jim.
