Sherryl Eakes, 59, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 23, 2020, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Sherryl chose to be cremated. Her family will hold a private gathering. Instead of flowers & plants, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Born May 31, 1961 in Iowa City, Sherryl was the daughter of Lawrence “Whitey” and Shirley (Williams) Breer. She had been a lifelong resident of Iowa City - graduating from Iowa City West High in 1979.

On June 23, 2001, she married Mark P. Eakes in Iowa City. Sadly, Mark passed away in 2012. His death devastated Sherryl – a loss she could not conquer.

Sherryl worked in housekeeping at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for many years. She enjoyed going to the movies and eating out. Above all, she loved her family.

Survivors include her son Walter Helm of Iowa City; sister, Kathy Wiley (John) of Walford, a brother William Breer of Solon; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, Jason Wiley, Martin Wiley, Lori Borcherding and Brenda Yoder-White.

Sherryl was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Larry Breer and her husband Mark.
