John J. Kelly, 88, of Solon died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, May 6 after a short illness.

Requiem mass was May 9 at St. Mary's church at Oxford, with burial in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Kelly was born in Oxford, the son of Thomas and Anna McQuaid Kelly. He was married to Julia Fitzgerald in 1907 at Spencer.

A member of St. Mary's church at Oxford for many years, Mr. Kelly later became a member of St. Mary's church at Solon. He was the holder of a 50-year membership pin of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mr. Kelly farmed near Oxford until 1953 after which he resided with his daughter, Mrs. Michael A. Kessler, in Solon.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Kessler, Mrs. Paul C. Kessler, Oxford, and Mrs. Joseph A. Sweeney, Baltimore, Md. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his wife in 1940, 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
